WHAT COULD HAVE BEEN BETTER ABOUT THE CASTLE OF ADVENTURE The author has been careful to not mirror the harsh realities of the real world in certain scenarios, for these could have negatively affected young minds. Even the villains aren’t too evil as they avoid hurting our little protagonists too severely. The book has a fairy tale-like feel to it. The author has exquisitely conveyed the importance of unity through the kids, who come together to emerge triumphant against all odds. The role of Kiki, the parrot, has been beautifully described.

The Castle of Adventure is devoid of any complicated vocabulary, making it an ideal children’s read. WHAT WE LIKED ABOUT THE CASTLE OF ADVENTURE Soon, the quintet begins to check out the abandoned castle, getting into an adventure none of them could have seen coming. They eventually become friends with Tassie, a local girl. To their surprise, they come across a deserted castle. After getting there, the four kids venture outside to explore the area. Philip’s mom arranges a cottage at Castle Hill to spend their vacation at. Better than some of the other books in the rest of the series, though.The story begins with all the protagonists, Jack, Philip, Lucy-Ann, and Dinah, coming home for the term-end holidays from the boarding school. And the next thing that happens? That's right, into the castle they go.Īn excellent book, but not as good as The Island of Adventure, the first book in the series.

Jack, spotting some eagles, wants to go up to see them, and Mrs Mannering agrees on the basis that Tassie can lead them safely. But a local 'wild girl' by the name of Tassie, who is fascinated by both Philip and Kiki (in that order) and follows them around everywhere, shows them a safe path to the castle. It's a year since their island adventure, and the children are staying at Spring Cottage on Castle Hill with Mrs Mannering while their real home is 'decorated and cleaned.' Mrs Mannering tells the children quite firmly to stay away from the castle at the top of the hill because the road up to it fell away in a landslide, and the route is treacherous. After the exciting adventure encountered by Philip, Dinah, Jack and Lucy-Ann, described in The Island of Adventure, this is the second book in the Adventure series.
